The Chinese consulate in Los Angeles said Chinese nationals were among the dead.
Yu's niece, Kathleen Fong, said on social media that her aunt immigrated from China more than a decade ago and worked hard with her husband and children to create a new life for herself.
"It's heartbreaking that this journey has now come to an abrupt end," Fong wrote on a GoFundMe page created to help pay for her aunt's funeral. "She will never be able to realize with her own hands the dream she has pursued for so long."

Fong wrote that Yu and her husband worked several jobs to get by and try to provide a better future for their three children, two of whom are in college.
Tom's family said she was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the shooting, but died Sunday from her injuries, according to a statement seen by ABC News. Tom is remembered as "a hardworking mother, wife and grandmother who loved dancing".
"For those who knew her, she was someone who always went out of her way to give for others," the family said.
Alvero's family said in a statement on Twitter that he was a devout Catholic who loved ballroom dancing and was the life of any party.
"Overnight, we had to mourn the loss of our loved ones to gun violence. We were devastated and caught in a downward spiral," the family said.
Victims of the Half Moon Bay shooting
The seven farm workers shot and killed in Half Moon Bay on Monday have been identified, mostly Mexican and Chinese immigrants, some of whom worked on the farm for years, putting down roots in foreign lands and pursuing their "American dream", but did not expect to be buried in this.

Jose Perez went to a Mexican market in Half Moon Bay every week to buy food and send money to his family in Mexico, according to farm employees. An old friend of Marciano Martinez Jimenez (Marciano Martinez Jimenez) also described to reporters that Jimenez is an introverted person who rarely drinks at parties and has a calm and easy-going personality.
“He didn’t deserve to die like that,” said Martha Santiago, a close friend and lifelong friend who ran a Mexican pastry shop in Half Moon Bay.
Perez and Martinez Jimenez are two of seven victims identified by police. The other five victims were: Qizhong Cheng, 66; Jingzhi Lu, 64; Zhishen Liu, 73; Aixiang Zhang, 74; and Yetao Bing, 43.
Police previously said all victims spoke little or no English and were cut off from the outside world.
“Generally speaking, farm workers are an under-the-radar group,” said Cynthia Choi, who runs a nonprofit in San Francisco that helps victims of violence in Asia.
"We still don't know much about the victims and their families, and the police are still trying to find clues," Choi said. “Latino organizations are overwhelmed, Half Moon Bay doesn’t have any Asian-serving organizations at all — and no one seems to have anything to do with the Asian farm workers there. They seem to be an invisible community.”

Residents of Half Moon Bay paid tribute to the victims across town, lighting candles, flowers and notes at storefronts and street corners, as well as at the scene of the crime.
Martha, the pastry shop owner, said the shooting had deterred her from going to work for fear of upsetting disgruntled colleagues. The massacre, she said, "will leave a deep psychological mark," not just in the farmworker community, but across the town.
