The name of the geoduck is derived from its siphon tube which resembles an elephant trunk, because the "nose" is too large to be retracted into the shell. In order to protect itself, the geoduck usually hides in the beach sand about 3 feet deep. The nostrils are exposed to the sky and prey on the beach.

But in fact, it is difficult to see the nostrils of the geoduck on the surface of the beach.So the first step in digging mussels is to look for small holes on the beach.Most of the time you will see two kinds of holes:
One is the appearance of a small hole inadvertently hit by the rain on the beach. The other is a small hole like a fake replacement, with a smooth and clear border, with a size of 1-3cm. This kind of hole does not need to be paid attention to. There is no geoduck that we like to eat inside. Don't stay where it is not worthwhile. After all, low tide The time is limited.
So what we need to focus on is the first type of hole.

The time for deep digging is up, and digging can be divided into two types according to tools:A single person drops the bucket without a booster, and a powerful water pump artifact for two people.

In the former, you need to dig out some sand with a shovel, insert a bucket, and continue digging. The bucket is used to prevent the sand from flowing back. Because the geoduck hides at 2-3 feet, it can be seen or can be dug to almost the depth. When you touch the elephant’s trunk, don’t stop and continue digging carefully until you find the clam shell. Throw the shovel aside and slowly take out the whole body of the clam with your hands. Remember not to pull the nose directly.
The latter kind of pump artifact, the principle is to use water to quickly pump away the sand in the hole, one person operates the pump, one person reaches in and digs, hands-on practice for a few minutes, the physical consumption is small, and the efficiency of digging clams is very effective!
