Xiao Zha and Chan informed the head of the restaurant via email of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative that they would be donated. Seiko Alba, the head of Japanese ramen restaurant Dohatsuten, told the media that when she received an email from Zuckerberg, she initially thought it was a mail fraud. But the follow-up money was quickly handed over, she said: "Thanks to the couple, we can move on."

Most of the selected restaurants are located on the peninsula, and the restaurants that received donations, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, are regular customers. The restaurant said that after receiving the money, it will be used for all expenses of the restaurant, including employees' salaries and store rent; they will also use the money to provide free meals to medical workers and first-aid personnel struggling on the front line.
