Guide to Risk Avoidance for International Students
It's very unfortunate that there are college shootings happening again.
How can we save ourselves when gun violence occurs? The U.S. Department of Homeland Security offers several recommendations:
1. To run away.If there is a feasible escape route, drop belongings and attempt to evacuate the scene. After you are safe, call 911 to call the police and follow the police's instructions.
2. To hide.If you can't escape, then find a secret place to hide. But make sure you don't fall into dead ends.If possible, seal off the entrance to the hideout.
3. To wrestle. This is the last resort. When you are in danger, try to distract and/or incapacitate the shooter by throwing objects at him, yelling, and being as aggressive as possible.
